Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He, (God), has planted eternity in the human heart”.
Because of this, we can never be completely filled, or satisfied, with the things of this world. We can never feel as if we have found the true directions we need. Why? It’s because we are not truly of this world. We have an eternal yearning for something more, something more perfect than this world can provide. It’s because we are created in God’s image, because the spiritual side of us cries out, just as that infant did in our physical youth. We have a spiritual need!
Psalm 119:19 explains it like this, “I am but a foreigner here on earth”.
Psalm 19:1-6 tells us, “The heavens tell of the glory of God. The skies display His marvelous craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make Him known. They speak without a sound or a word; their voice is silent in the skies, yet their message has gone out to all the earth, and their words to all the world”.
When you are out in the beauty of God’s creation, you can see, you can feel the intricate touch of the Master’s hand. It is there, where there is no clutter from all the busy things of society, where there is a chance to be still, to just be quiet and observe with all your senses, that you can tell that God made you and all that’s around you, and put you here for some purpose.
That purpose is not to try to fulfill all the physical “needs” your flesh cries out for. That purpose is what you’re feeling when you feel that emptiness inside, the feeling of being lost. God created everything, including this emptiness inside you. He would not create this emptiness without providing the way, the directions on how to fill it.
The reason we are lost, separated from God and his purpose, is our sin. We are born into this life in sin; it’s man’s condition.
